Storefront Facade Remodel Enigma Salon

The need for disabled residents to access the recreation building required a design that eliminated steps. Because of maintenance and liability issues, the apartment owners preferred not to have handrails. Since a true ADA ramp requires handrails, the solution was to design an access system that avoided a true ramp as defined in the ADA. This is a great example of limiting the slope of the sidewalk to 5% or less therefore avoiding the requirements for ramp handrails and still meeting the requirements of the ADA and the California Building Code.
